Our charming village looks truly picturesque covered in snow. This year, I decided to create some watercolor studies inspired by photos I took last December during a brief snowfall just weeks before Christmas.

The village pond is a focal point, greeting visitors as they enter the village. Charming nooks lie hidden down narrow lanes, where small shops like a bakery or butcher once stood.

For each painting, I began with simple sketches of the buildings and added intricate details and winter trees after the initial washes had dried.

For my winter palette, I primarily used Cobalt Blue, Burnt Umber, Sap Green, Alizarin Crimson, and Yellow Ochre washes to create a cohesive collection. I chose 140lb (300gsm) cold-pressed watercolor paper to introduce subtle texture, enhancing details like the settled snow, icy pond, and buildings.
