Chris’s Cameras
Photography has been one of my primary interests for many years. I was given my first camera in my early teens, a 35mm Zorki 4 rangefinder with a 50mm screw thread lens. The Zorki was a manual camera, well places to help me learn the basics of composition, exposure and focus control. Since then I have owned many different film cameras including Nikon, Olympus and Leica. I was keen to take up the new digital camera technology when it came to the market in the early 2000’s, initially using the early Nikon Coolpix 5000. I quickly adopted the more sophisticated Nikon DSLR products which I used for many years. Recently I have moved across to a Fujifilm mirrorless camera system supplemented by my iPhone, both giving very good image quality.
Style & Motivation
I am a spontaneous photographer. There is no pre-planning – I simply carry a camera and if something draws my interest I attempt to capture a memorable image, concentrating on composition and focussing on points of detail in the scene. I like bold saturated colours, interesting textures and good tonal range. Some images are presented better in monochrome and I enjoy experimenting with filtering and tone mapping in image post-processing. Dramatic mountain landscapes, historical buildings and their architectural detail, street scenes, flora, and close up photography inspire me.
